Luna for Healthcare Providers: Your Questions Answered

Who can use Luna?

People with Type 1 diabetes who are 18 years of age and older and currently manage, or would prefer to manage, their condition with multiple daily injections (MDI) and use a continuous glucose monitor. We plan on running additional studies with the FDA to allow us to bring Luna to our younger friends and also those with Type 2 diabetes.

How does Luna integrate into existing diabetes treatment plans?

Luna enhances nighttime diabetes management by automating insulin delivery during sleep, helping maintain time in range (TIR). It complements daily diabetes care routines involving manual injections or other management methods, offering a restful night without the complexity or invasiveness of traditional pumps.

How is Luna different from traditional insulin pumps?

Luna is designed to be used when you sleep, providing automated insulin delivery without the need to wear the device during the day. Here are some features that make Luna special:

  • Set and forget: Unlike traditional pumps that have hundreds of settings, Luna requires just a single input to set up, no daily adjustments needed.
  • Compact design: Luna is significantly smaller than any current insulin pump, making it less intrusive.
  • No attachment: With Luna, you only wear it while you are sleeping. This eliminates the hassle and discomfort of tubing or wearing a patch pump 24/7.
  • Direct fill from pen: Conveniently fill Luna directly from your insulin pen. Minutes matter, and with Luna, the process to fill it takes significantly less time than with other insulin pumps.
What do patients need to start using Luna?

To use Luna, patients will need a compatible continuous glucose monitor (CGM), a rapid-acting insulin pen, and a personal smartphone to manage settings and receive updates.

What training and support are available for healthcare providers using Luna with their patients?

Luna simplifies the onboarding process with a unique single input startup and in-app contextual training, reducing the training time required for both providers and patients. Free online materials, including interactive videos and detailed documentation, are also available to ensure seamless integration into clinical practice.

What are Luna’s safety features?

Luna’s key safety features include Drift Detection™ technology to prevent insulin delivery when glucose levels are dropping and Occlusion Detection to ensure continuous insulin delivery. Luna works alongside existing CGM systems, maintaining all standard alarms and alerts.

How can Luna's data be integrated into patient health records?

Luna will launch with EMR integrations to streamline data management and reduce the administrative burden for clinicians, facilitating better data-driven patient care.

Can Luna be used with other medications or therapies?

While Luna is initially designed for insulin use, it has been developed to potentially integrate with other therapeutic regimens, providing flexible treatment options for diverse patient needs.

What is the cost of Luna for healthcare facilities?

Luna offers a disruptive pricing model that is significantly more cost-effective than traditional AID systems, especially for patients who use the device consistently.

How does Luna handle data privacy and security?

Luna is HIPAA compliant, ensuring that all patient data is handled with the highest standards of privacy and security.

Are there any precautions for using Luna?

Patients should be fasting and avoid taking any exogenous insulin while using Luna to ensure accurate and safe insulin management overnight.
